Literacy Mentoring for Leadership Program

The Literacy Mentoring for Leadership program is a two-year capacity-building professional development on early language and literacy funded by the Governor’s Office of Student Achievement and administered by the Sandra Dunagan Deal Center for Early Language and Literacy at Georgia College. In concurrence with the Deal Center’s vision and mission, the aim is to raise student outcomes in reading by increasing educator knowledge of early language and literacy development and improving classroom practice among K-3 teachers in the state of Georgia. The program provides in-depth training to school-based literacy teams serving K-3rd grade on the core early language and literacy fundamentals that research suggests are necessary to deliver highly-effective literacy instruction. School-based literacy teams, with a designated literacy coach to support teachers, work with a Language and Literacy Mentor and receive on-going, meaningful job-embedded professional learning over the course of two years.
