Georgia Joint Senate Higher Education and Education and Youth Committee meeting

March 14, 2023

The Deal Center was proud to present during the Georgia Joint Senate Higher Education and Education and Youth Committee meeting on February 1, 2023. This date is a special day to our staff, partners, and friends, as it also marks Mrs. Deal’s birthday.

In an effort to support the caucus’s charge of understanding literacy and improving state policies relating to literacy outcomes, Dr. Holley Roberts and Dr. Kristina Dandy discussed the Deal Center’s history, mission, and vision, including the importance of using evidence-based practices to ensure reading proficiency for all children.

Dr. Roberts and Dr. Dandy provided insight into the following topics on early childhood literacy and The Deal Center’s work:

  • Benefits of reading to children

  • Third-grade milestones across the state of Georgia

  • Literacy as it relates to long-term economic sustainability

  • Deal Center collaborations, grants, and professional learning

  • Deal Center impact and future opportunities

The session ended with a brief question and answer session. For more information, or to watch the entire session, you may click here. Many thanks to the committee for this opportunity!
