Celebrating Mrs. Deal’s Birthday

Every year, February 1st is a special day for the Deal Center team as we honor Mrs. Deal’s birthday and lifelong work on behalf of Georgia’s children. During Mrs. Deal’s entire birthday month of February, we are celebrating through the Volunteer Reading program! This program encourages volunteer readers to work with elementary-age children to foster their love of reading. We kicked things off with a special volunteer reading training hosted by Mrs. Deal’s daughter, Carrie Deal! She was joined by Evan Michael Bush, Director of Youth Services for the Georgia Public Library, and Charles Eames, a children’s storyteller from Waycross, Georgia. This event encouraged volunteers from across the state to learn more about how they can read to children.
