Julie Sirmans

Program Director

Julie brings over 25 years of diverse experience in both public and private education to her role. Throughout her career, she has served in various capacities including music teacher, classroom teacher, reading consultant, intervention specialist, EIP teacher, and assistant principal. Her educational background includes a BA in Music Education, MEd in Early Childhood Education, and Ed.S. in Educational Leadership.

Julie's commitment to literacy education is evident through her certifications and training. She is a certified tutor for Barton Reading and Spelling Systems, with completed courses in Orton-Gillingham and Wilson training. She holds a Dyslexia Endorsement from Georgia and has successfully completed all Cox Campus modules for the K-3 Structured Literacy Knowledge Building Cohort. Notably, she is an original and active member of the Georgia Dyslexia Collaborative Team.

Over the past decade, Julie has dedicated herself to applying the latest research in the science of reading to classrooms and establishing effective systems within a local LEA to enhance reading outcomes for all students. Her true passion lies in supporting the most vulnerable struggling readers, recognizing that reading is a transformative tool that can alter the trajectory of a young child's life.

With enthusiasm and dedication, Julie looks forward to extending her impactful work throughout the state of Georgia via the Sandra Dunagan Deal Center for Early Language and Literacy.
